NCIS Season 20 - Episode 13
NCIS took a short break from CBS and is now back for the rest of season 20. Episode 13, Evil Eye, is coming out on the US network on Monday, February 6, and, as always, will be followed by the latest instalment from NCIS Hawaii, which was also on hiatus last week. With every investigation, there are new victims and suspects the team must get to know with another lined up for this next episode.

The current season of the show stars Sean Murray as Timothy McGee, Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres, Katrina Law as Jessica Knight, Brian Dietzen as Dr. Jimmy Palmer, Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines, David McCallum as Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard, Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance, and Gary Cole as Alden Parker.
The upcoming episode will be directed by Michael Zinberg, while Kimberly-Rose Wolter and Brendan Fehily will serve as its writers. The episode will see the team investigate a gruesome decapitation case that has most likely been committed by a serial killer.
The first season of the show released in 2003 and the cast has seen several actors over the years. The current season began streaming on September 19, 2022, and is one of the most successful seasons of the show.
NCIS Season 20 has been a success because it's found ways to keep things fresh. There was even an episode that did something that NCIS had never done before. However, it can be difficult to come up with wholly original ideas week in and week out. So for Season 20, Episode 13, "Evil Eye," NCIS reached back into procedural history and employed a classic TV trope.
The trope in question is a familiar one: an actor or actress is scheduled to star in a big production and in order to inform their acting decisions, they want some on-the-job experience. Usually, the other party doesn't want to give it to them. In The Simpsons Season 5, Episode 13, "Homer and Apu," in which actor James Woods briefly took a job at the Kwik-E-Mart. In Archer Season 2, Episode 7, "Movie Sta," actress Rona Thorne wanted to follow the team for an upcoming movie -- but ended up being a Russian spy. And Castle's well-received third season included the episode "Nikki Heat," in which an actress shadowed Detective Kate Beckett.
Along those lines, NCIS' "Evil Eye" introduced movie star Chloe Marlene. She was set to play an NCIS REACT agent in an upcoming series, so she shadowed Agent Jessica Knight. But Marlene got more than she bargained for. The case involved a severed head, a guillotine and a murderer who became obsessed with Marlene. However, NCIS improved on the trope by making Marlene a quick study; by the end of the episode, she was the one interrogating the suspect and saving lives.
There are plenty of similar movie star-based episodes, but most are are comedic with over-the-top plots. NCIS, however, is a drama, and "Evil Eye" was made with a focus on realism. There was even a line in the episode in which Kasie Hines complained that most television is unrealistic. However, NCIS used real-life precedent when Director Lean Vance referenced how Tom Cruise met a fighter pilot while filming the original Top Gun. Cruise would later go on to set up flight experience for the Top Gun: Maverick cast.
On a more positive note, we do have official confirmation from CBS informing us that they do plan to air the new episode 13 next Monday night, February 6, 2023 in its usual, 8 pm central standard time slot. So, certainly make sure that very important date and time does not escape your memories.
NCIS revolves around a fictional team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which conducts criminal investigations involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The series was renewed for a thirteenth season by CBS on Monday, May 11, 2015.[2][3][4] Michael Weatherly, who stars as Anthony DiNozzo on the show, departed the series in the season finale. On February 29, 2016, NCIS was renewed for seasons fourteen and fifteen.[5]
The series was renewed for a thirteenth season by CBS on Monday, May 11, 2015.[2][3] Production on this season started in late July.[4] On January 5, 2016, CBS announced Weatherly's departure from the series after thirteen seasons.[5] Scottie Thompson returned as Jeanne Benoit, Tony's ex-girlfriend, in episodes 8 and 16.[6][7][8][9] Scott Bakula, Lucas Black, Zoe McLellan, and Shalita Grant star in a crossover with NCIS: New Orleans, in the episode "Sister City (Part I)", as NCIS Special Agent Dwayne Pride, NCIS Special Agent Christopher LaSalle, NCIS Special Agent Meredith "Merri" Brody, and NCIS Special Agent Sonja Percy, respectively.[10]
With Parker on the run with his ex-wife, the NCIS team investigates people who might have a personal vendetta against Parker in hopes of clearing his name. The episode ends with Torres and Knight alongside NCIS agent Jane Tennant and Computer Specialist Ernie Malik heading to Hawaii to stop the Raven or Herman Maxwell who's been freed by his followers, members of a group called the Unkindness.
As Dr. Jimmy Palmer, Brian Dietzen has been with "NCIS" since the show's inception, having started as a guest star in 2003 before eventually moving up to the main cast in Season 10. And while fans have enjoyed watching Jimmy grow and flourish on screen, behind the scenes, Dietzen himself is also thriving. In fact, he has co-written two episodes of "NCIS" so far, including tonight's episode, "Old Wounds," which airs on CBS at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
In it, supervisory special agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole) tackles a very personal case that threatens to send him over the edge emotionally. Dietzen co-wrote the episode with veteran writer (and "NCIS" executive producer) Scott Williams.
The last time we spoke was right before Season 20 began, and now we're nearing the end of the season, so it's kind of full circle. You actually co-wrote the next episode airing, "Old Wounds," which is the second episode you've had a hand in writing.
Both on-screen and off, you and Diona Reasonover, who plays forensic specialist Kasie Hines, are besties, it seems, and she has also co-written an episode. Have you guys talked much about that shared experience?
We were actually in Hawaii together when we were filming the "NCIS" crossover, and we went out to dinner, and I pitched him the idea for this episode, and he was game for it. He was ready to play. He said, "This sounds fun. This could be cool." He gave both me and Scott [Williams] feedback when the script came out, trying to craft it and hone it and polish it into something that was more honest for him and for his character. Being able to collaborate with him was an absolute treat, and he did not fail to deliver. He's a fantastic actor.
As far as next year, I look forward to writing more [episodes] and seeing which characters get to come back for a visit. I would love for Michael Patrick Thornton, who played a character [in "Old Wounds"], to come back. He did an amazing job alongside Gary Cole. I'd love to see Elle Graper, who played my daughter Victoria last year, come back as well. I'd love to see a continuance of the family that we have here at "NCIS," seeing what they get into next and seeing what the next natural progressions are with Knight and Jimmy.
Beyond this, there are plenty of other series and films to catch on the platform, including ongoing shows such as NCIS and Station 19, as well as the arrival of the first three seasons of Arrested Development, which were recently removed from Netflix's library.
After this major cliffhanger, it is no surprise that the fandom is eager to know what happens next in the series, which is expected to continue the plot from the previous episode and explore more character arcs in order to bring the season to a satisfying conclusion.
